Can CBD Help with Stress?
Updated: Apr 19, 2021
We all deal with stress, and some of us deal with it more than others. Whether you are overworked at your job or frustrated over your bills or your to-do list, there are so many things in life that make us tense up. Unfortunately, many of us turn to unhealthy habits to cope with the various stressors of everyday life, such as alcohol, junk food, and unnecessary medication. But why not try a more natural approach, such as taking CBD oil?
What is CBD?
According to the Harvard Medical School, cannabidiol, or CBD, is an active ingredient in the hemp plant, which is “a cousin of the marijuana plant.” It is important to note that, although CBD comes from the hemp plant, it does not get you high. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that causes a mind-altering effect. Our CBD oil contains less than .3% THC, so you do not have to worry about experiencing any psychoactive effects or “high” when consuming it.

How does CBD work?
Nick Jikomes from Leafly explains that CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system, or ECS. This system is “largely comprised of endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes that are believed to help regulate a variety of functions in humans including sleep, mood, memory, appetite, and pain sensation.” In another article for Leafly, Jikomes also points out that CBD is particularly interesting because it “displays a broad range of potential medical applications” without offering an intoxicating effect.
Can CBD help you manage stress?
According to Project CBD, stress causes the release of adrenaline, cortisol, and other chemicals. This can lead to an array of side effects including a loss of energy, sleep issues, headaches, and more. In a previous article, we discussed CBD’s potential effects on anxiety. While stress and anxiety are not the same thing, CBD might be able to offer some stress relief. In an article for Project CBD, Mary Biles explains that the ECS “plays a crucial role in regulating fear, anxiety, and how we cope with stress.”
CBD’s potential medicinal benefits can impact your stress levels in a number of ways. For instance, CBD may help promote both relaxation and a better night’s sleep, and the quality and amount of sleep you are getting can have an impact on your stress levels.
